Reading / Listening / Viewing Resources for Couples
Start Here (these are my top two recommendations for reading / listening ):
Fierce Intimacy: Standing up To One Another With Love, by Terry Real (audiobook only)
We Do: Saying Yes to Relationship of Depth, True Connection , and Enduring Love, by Stan Tatkin (print book or audiobook * written for couples in the engagement / early commitment phase but totally applicable to other phases of relationship)
Other Books for Couples by Leaders in the Couples Therapy Field You might Check Out:
The New Rules of Marriage, by Terry Real
Hold me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love, By Sue Johnson.
Wired for Love: How Understanding your Partner's Brain and Attachment Style can Help You Defuse Conflict and Build a Secure Relationship, By Stan Tatkin
The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work: A Practical Guide from The Nation's Foremost Relationship Expert, By Jon Gottman
Remember:
1) Nothing you read and no idea in and of itself will change your experience in relationship: only doing something differently will bring about change.
2) Ideally, both partners explore these resources together. If you're partner isn't willing to, then only use these learning materials to steer your own behavior in a better direction. Trying to use what you learn as ammunition to judge or change your partner is a losing strategy.
